Why calcium for horses:
Essential mineral: Calcium is critical for bone and skeletal development, muscle contraction, nerve function, teeth, and blood clotting.
Deficiency risks: Horses grazing on high-oxalate grasses (common in parts of Australia) may bind dietary calcium, leading to deficiencies. This can lead to conditions like Big Head.
Young horses: Supplementation may help reduce risks of osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) if the diet is deficient or imbalanced.
Calcium carbonate is widely used to support bone strength, muscle function, and overall calcium balance, especially when diets are deficient or when grazing on high-oxalate pastures. It is effective when used appropriately, but the benefits depend on the horse’s existing diet and calcium-to-phosphorus ratio.
Dosage will vary depending on the whole diet. A 10g scoop is supplied in the pouch.
Available in 1.5kg, 3kg, or 5kg heat-sealed pouches
